i'n not exactly diggin on this but my sista just sent me this promo disc from her store yesterday so here goes:
5 tracks- the cover was decorated with some NYC subway motif and was called busking. decent design. looks like from the short liner notes the guy has not actually spent much time busking, so that's a little strange and possibly even deceptive (or sinister= poser?). nonetheless the disc was recorded in the subway and possibly the best part was the capturing of the awesome train arriving! cool. there was one track i really enjoyed, only answer; great tones, melancholy but catchy strumming (i have no music vocab). i was intrigued enough to check out the guy’s myspace and saw that i recognized he’s got a tune i’ve heard on the radio recently, 27 jennifers. it’s boppy in that goobery jazzy keyboard way. conceptually, i find it funny that he’s singing about all the jennifers. no one can beat jenny 8675309 but it is a new take for anyone growing up in the 70s/80s. then again, i’m not even compelled to listen to the entire track. i did try to listen to a few of the other tracks and they were just too a) too produced, b) halting, even beats c)just cheesy? annoying? these tracks sound to me like a lot of fledgling acoustic songwriters i have seen that have some decent tunes but decide to get a band and have no sense of the wider vision of their songs. so they all have this generic drumbeat stacked over their song. boring. i guess this guy was also part of a band called soul coughing (you too might recognize their moderate radio hit, circles, from the late 90s). i think this guy might have some potential if he stayed all stripped down (jury’s still out) and maybe’s got a decent live act? though it looks like from the youtube videos that his shows might be populated by young girls who watch a lot of shows like greys anatomy…
"I don't need to... walk around in circles" That will be in my head all day just hearing it mentioned. Sounds interesting, I'll check it out. Especially since busking and Grey's Anatomy are numbers 3 and 7 on my top ten favorites list. Tongue

thanks for the info
i realized i may have misrepresented the lil busking 5 tracks, they are definitely decent and growing on me. it was the tracks on his myspace that i couldn't get through. they are a different breed...
Hi to all,
Golden Delicious is my favorite.
The doughty is a wonderful album . I got C.D from my friend . But due to some reason I missed some tracks. Still I know the wording of the album Its soo meaningful and sweet.
Starting as the unmistakable frontman for Soul Coughing, thanks to his distinctive voice and stream-of-consciousness poetics, then going onto a solo career after 1998.
