Zootopia // U2 Tribute

    Amazing doesn't quite capture it!

Zootopia is a U2 Tribute act with all the bells and whistles. I've seen them 3 times now and the show has been a little different each time based on the venue. I've seen a ton of tribute bands but these guys have it down.

By far the best venue was at the Performing Arts Center in Plaistow NH last Nov. Here they were able to utilize the enormity of the 1000+ seat venue and incorporated their full blown production complete with massive projection screens featuring some great video and live feeds, a killer light show, haze, a flawless sound system and oh yeah the most unbelievably gorgeous belly dancer! What a treat she was! The show was impeccable! I walked away stunned thinking I had just seen the most realistic tribute to any band ever.

I saw them again at the Black Brimmer in Manchester NH on St. Patrick's Day. I was at the right place at the right time! They still had video, great lights and sound although not to the scale of the PAC show. As you can imagine the crowd was amped for U2 on St. Paddy's Day and they got everything they had hoped for! The front man (Brian Downes aka Bono) abandoned the stage and surfed the crowd swooning the ladies and diving into groups of patrons eager to belt out a chorus or two. He masterfully commanded the crowd while jumping up on the bar and leading them to a rousing rendition of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", then bam!... right into "Get On Your Boots"! The room went nuts! Every song spot on and heartfelt. and oh yeah... the belly dancer shaked her groove thang during "Mysterious Ways". Did I mentioned that she is drop dead gorgeous! What an exotic look she has. ok ok ...

Last, but certainly not least, I saw them at the Grog In Newburyport this past Friday Night. A very small room. No video, no light show, no belly dancer (boo hoo) just the band and they were still amazing. Great energy and sound as always. The guitar really cut through giving you all of those lush signature tones. They used electronic drums in this room, which I'm not a real fan of, but it did keep the volume in check and allowed listeners to hear the full spectrum of what was being performed. Downes again wandered the room singling out the females and sweeping them off their feet with perfect renditions of U2 ballads.

If you love U2 (and who doesn't in this town!) then you have to check out Zootopia. The second best U2 show on the planet!
